The envelopes in which the discs came in were not the high quality smooth ones that most installation discs come in, and the two discs had scratches and abrasion marks in them, like somebody had rubbed them hard against the cheap paper envelope. This may seem like I expect too much, but a few years ago I bought an NLE called Edius 6 from Grass Valley. But a few days ago I sent an email to Native Instrument's support asking them politely for a replacement disc in case I ever wanted to sell the software, and nobody replied. It showed no errors, and the installation went fine, but I paid a lot of money for a brand new product and I expect every disc to be in pristine state, like when I buy a music CD or a movie on Blu-ray for far less money. So I had to waste time to run a surface scan with a program to make sure the disc wouldn't have any errors and wouldn't stop far into the installation, because it was the disc 'F'. The other thing I have a beef with is that one of those 12 DVDs came with three scratches, and this was out of a brand new sealed box I ordered from B&H Photo Video.

It should be like Windows Update, it lists all the updates, you select which ones you want, click OK and they all download and install, not download and have to install each and every one, one by one. And the Service Center should have a simpler installation for updates, especially when there are lots of them. Anything that requires an installation of more than half an hour should be provided on hard drive or an easy installation method. The worst when it comes to software installations that I had had so far was the Adobe CS6 Production Premium package, and that takes less than half an hour. So the installation from the DVDs is two hours, then downloading and installing all the updates is about two more hours. It doesn't have to be the fancy external hard drive that comes with Ultimate, but anything that is not 12 dual layer DVD-ROMs! But I would be happy with anything, SDHC memory sticks, USB drives, almost anything would be better than dual layer DVD-ROMs. I wonder if anyone at Native Instruments heard of Blu-ray, this new type of optical disc that has been around for like six years so far, with optical drives that cost about $90 for burners, and about $40 for readers? I'm not good at math, but I know that the installer would take far less BD-ROMs than DVD-ROMs.

How is it possible that in 2014 (or 2013 when it was released) we get 12 dual layer DVDs to install anything? This is like 1996 when MS Office would come in like 15 diskettes, only worse, because as a direct consequence of having 12 dual layer DVDs the installation took two hours, and this is on a brand new drive, the Pioneer BDR-208DBK. While I think Komplete 9 is an amazing product, the installation is just outrageous.
